How beautiful is this Historic Yorktown Virginia Engagement Session.  Tess and Connor not only picked one of my favorite places to photograph, but their personalities matched the bright and beautiful backdrops that Yorktown Provides.

Connor and Tess knew each other in middle school and High school when they were both enrolled in a community theatre organization.  Fast forward eight years later and they reconnected through one of Tess’s college friends.  Connor invited her to a dinner party in 2017 and they have been together since then!

When I asked them to share a special story about their relationship, Tess share with me the time they officially shared their feelings for one another:

“When we first started dating, Connor had been very intention to avoid using overly labeling language. For example, he never called our dates “dates.” Inside, he would just ask me to do a particular activity with him. (He was doing this proooobably because I told him on our first “date” and probably every “date” after about my fear of commitment and being in a relationship and he, sweetly, wanted to not scare me away). Anyway, on this particular night, our activities were to go to dinner and to see movie. But mind you, it was not a date. But everything changed after the movie. Unbeknownst to Connor, I had been wondering when on earth this cute boy was going to actually ask me on a date or at least label our dates as dates. The whole movie I plotted and planned how I could give Connor the reassurance to actually have the conversation about our mutual feelings. So I very calculatedly placed my head on his shoulder, “message received.” One the rainy, stormy walk back to our cars Connor finally finally “externalized what he had been internally processing…” So standing there in the pouring rain, outside of the movies, we finally confessed our feelings for each other.”

I love getting know our couples and hearing their stories!!  Each one is so unique!  I’m excited to finally share their engagement session on the blog and I look forward to their wedding at The Lakeside at Welch Estate in June.

As wedding photographers, we are often taught to find and cater to our "ideal" clients.  "Ideal clients" are often a certain group of people with a certain style, budget, or personality!  While establishing your ideal clients is a great business practice, Michael and I have adopted a completely different view of this were EVERYONE has a seat at our table!
