We know that, after your wedding is over, the only thing you have left is your wedding images

This statement drives us to work hard and put our all into every wedding. As Virginia wedding photographers serving all over Hampton Roads, Richmond, and DC, we’ve got enough wedding under our belt to have learned some great lessons and tips along the way. Most couples we serve desire to have a gallery that reflects not only the beauty of the day, but also the “in between” moments, the unscripted laughter, and the romantic portraits that drew them to choose us. In this post, we are sharing a few things that we wish everyone knew about wedding photography. We believe that this post will better educate couples to let go of their inhibition, take a deep breath, and truly live in every moment of your wedding day.

1 Everyone is photogenic and it is your photographer’s job to make sure your poses compliment you the best!

2 The best photos are created when you truly live in the moment. Try not to over plan your photos or create a “shot list”. This does not allow for creative flow and may add to overall tension because you are trying to manufacture moments rather than create them naturally!

3 Taking photos only takes a few seconds. Creating meaningful photos, however, takes some time so make sure you allocate enough time for photos!

4 Photography is a form of art, and art is subjective, so be selective in choosing your wedding photographer. Do you connect with that artist’s vision? Would you feel comfortable giving them free reign to capture your wedding day creatively?

5 Keep cell phone use at a minimum! This will also help guest be more present.

6 There is a saying when things run behind that “everyone can wait on the bride!.” While that is true, running behind on your timeline can affect your photographers ability to be execute your vision. Typically, things start running behind during hair and makeup, so always communicate with your artist what time your hair and makeup needs to be completed. It’s also important that you hire enough artists who can serve you and your bridesmaids in a timely manner!
